Santa Maria Community Services provides free tax preparation assistance

Santa Maria Community Services has collaborated with Elder High School, Price Hill Will, SC Ministry Foundation, United Way of Greater Cincinnati, and numerous volunteer tax preparers to help facilitate the Westside/Price Hill Volunteer Income Tax Assistance for the 11th year. Since 2007, Santa Maria and its partners have helped 3,302 individuals file their taxes for free, resulting in more than $5.2 million in returns.

The in-person tax preparation service prepares and e-files 2016 tax returns through myfreetaxes.com at no cost to participants. Those qualified for the Earned Income Tax Credit may receive up to $6,269 in additional cash back within 10-15 business days after filing. MyFreeTaxes is an easy, safe, online tax program sponsored by United Way and powered by H&R Block, that is free to individuals and families with a household income under $64,000.

Those interested in the free, in-person tax preparation service can schedule an appointment with trained and certified coaches by calling 513-235-3835. Appointments will be held each Saturday from 9-12 am, beginning February 4 and ending March 11 at Elder High School’s Schaeper Center (4005 Glenway Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45205).

In addition to this service, Santa Maria offers free self-filing opportunities at its Financial Opportunity Center (2918 Price Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45204), providing individuals access to online filing in the Center’s computer lab, while getting questions answered by a certified tax preparer. To learn more about this opportunity, contact Tonicia Green at 513- 557-7288. Walk-ins welcome Mondays from 10 am to 4:40 pm.
