Information for Donors

Santa Maria Community Services, Inc. (“SMCS”) shall accept only such gifts as are legal and consistent with organizational policy. SMCS may, but is not obligated to, seek the advice of legal counsel in matters relating to acceptance of gifts when appropriate, such as review for gifts where SMCS is named trustee; for all transactions with potential conflict of interest that have potential for adverse tax implications; and in other instances, in which the use of counsel is deemed appropriate by the SMCS Board of Directors.  SMCS cannot give accounting, tax or legal advice but will work closely with our donors’ advisers.  It is each donor’s responsibility to secure independent legal counsel as they deem necessary for all gifts made to SMCS.

Donors who wish to remain anonymous and not be included in published lists of donors must state so at the time of the gift.  Completion of the donation remittance envelope or mention of the donor’s name on any correspondence accompanying the donation is deemed written permission to be included in published lists of donors.  Donors are welcome to request and receive a complete copy of their records.  Only authorized SMCS staff and volunteers and members of the Board of Directors are permitted to view donor files.  Donor files remain onsite at SMCS until December 31 of the year in which the seventh anniversary of the donation falls.
