Bienestar Trainings and Consultations

We are pleased to announce our training and consultation series for social and health care professionals of for-profit and non-profit organizations. The trainings and consultations are designated to help organizations understand the culture of the populations they serve and to be aware of the external factors associated with the services they provide.

Available Trainings:

Cultural Competency

The Cultural Competency training aims to open the mind of participants to respect and understand differences within cultures. It answers the fundamental question about feeling comfortable when working with people different than us.

Working With Interpreters

Working With Interpreters is directed to physicians, nurses, social workers, case managers or any other health care/social service providers using interpreters to communicate with their patients/clients. Participants do not need to speak another language, but they will be able to identify the key elements present in any professional interpretation session. The provider will know what to expect and demand from the interpreter, and to re-direct an untrained interpreter in providing an accurate interpretation.

Introduction to Medical Interpretation

Introduction to Medical Interpretation requires that the participants be bilingual. Attendees have to take a language test prior to admission to this workshop. This is a three-day training covering the following areas: Fundamentals in Interpretation, Interpretation Skills and Medical Terminology. Participants will be involved in a wide variety of activities to enhance their learning process. Hands-on exercises and audiovisul materials are extensively used in this training.

Understanding Hispanic/Latino Culture

The Understanding Hispanic/Latino Culture training provides an overview about the life in other countries of the Americas and the Caribbean. This presentation also covers the limitations and barriers that Hispanics face when coming to the United States, and the best practices to ensure a good rapport and efficient services when providing services to Hispanics/Latinos, the largest minority in the country.

Health Educational Workshops

Health Educational Workshops (English and Spanish) will focus on providing health education about various health related issues such as diabetes, depression, osteoporosis, domestic violence, pregnancy, vaccinations, stress management, etc. The emphasis is on prevention, identification of symptoms and location of resources in the community.

Life in the United States

Life in the United States (Spanish only) describes the lifestyle in the United States and an overview of the health care system. This presentation emphasizes behavioral norms and expectations from the North American society.
