Santa Maria People: Approximately forty-five caring professionals and para-professionals along with more than 500 volunteers provide the services that enable the families we serve to gain the skills and knowledge they need to be healthy, productive, contributing members of the community.

  • People Served: On an annual basis, Santa Maria serves over 3,000 individuals and families through its Neighborhood Support Centers.

Profile of Service Participants (based on 2000 census data):

  • age range is evenly spread from infant to older adult
  • 75% Caucasian (largely of Appalachian descent), 20% African-American, 2% Hispanic, 1% Asian, 2% other
  • 37% of adults ages 25+ lack a high school diploma; the unemployment rate is 9%; 24% of families live below poverty; 46% are female head of households.
  • the majority of our service participants are community members of the East Price Hill, Lower Price Hill and Sedamsville-Riverside neighborhoods of Cincinnati

Types of Services Provided: The Neighborhood Support Centers primarily provide resources for neighbors and civic organizations in Cincinnati's three west side communities: Lower Price Hill, East Price Hill and Sedamsville/Riverside. Neighborhood Support Centers increase the civic capacity of communities through community analysis, relationship building, implementation of community projects, information dissemination, identification of internal and external resources, and cultivation of partnerships.

In addition, Santa Maria offers the following programs:

  • Every Child Succeeds: helps new and expectant parents gain parenting skills
  • Child Development: assesses family needs, provides respite, makes referrals
  • Home Child Care Network: provides training required for community members to operate their home childcare business, and creates networking opportunities for providers
  • Meals-on-Wheels: delivers meals to homebound older adults and offers recreational senior and intergenerational group activities
  • Youth Leadership: offers civic, social and recreational opportunities to youth
  • Bienestar: a Hispanic health access initiative
  • Jordan Health Program: increases access to stable, ongoing medical services and prescription medication; also increases knowledge of health and wellness issues
  • Lower Price Hill Revitalization Plan: a housing development partnership with Model Management in Lower Price Hill

Neighborhood-based services are offered free of charge and in partnership with community volunteers.
